Obama refuses to go to Iraq with McCain
Because learning firsthand what's really happening in Iraq and visiting with all those victims in the US military he claims to care about would just be a "stunt":
John McCain's proposal is nothing more than a political stunt, and we don't need any more 'Mission Accomplished' banners or walks through Baghdad markets to know that Iraq's leaders have not made the political progress that was the stated purpose of the surge.
You really have to hand it to McCain - rather than shy away from the Iraq war as a campaign topic, he's been making it a centerpiece issue. You'd think that Obama, whose war stance was sold as the reason to pick him over more experienced Democrats in the primaries, would be delighted to go toe-to-toe with McCain on this issue. Instead, he cowers from any direct debate, and falls back on distortions such as his dishonest claim that McCain doesn't want the troops to get an affordable education or the "100-year war" lie that he's told so frequently.
It requires more than just judgment to lead. It requires courage as well. Obama is proving that he lacks both.

The bill passed the Senate by a veto-proof margin of 75-22.
So, how many GOPers jumped the aisle to vote for it? Their judgement and courage is lacking too?
McCain a former veteran himself has a chance to advance benefits and instead says no, we can do better. Instead of saying YES, and we can do better. So you are ok with that?
your own fucking statement at the end of this post is a direct contradiction to what he just did.
He lacked judgement and courage. He had no courage to do what was right for those risking their lives in a time of war. He didn't have the judgement to that other people in his own party exercised.
As a former veteran that used my Montgomery GI Bill money I can tell you that this highly offends me especially during a time of war.
You are pathetic.
I'll concede on the GOPers who jumped the aisle. I've never made any secret of my distaste for many in my own party lately.
On McCain, I'm not his biggest fan either. However, he supported an alternative bill that also expanded educational benefits and to ignore this fact is at best, ignorant, and at worst, dishonest. To vote yes on the bill competing with the one you really support because it has a better chance of passing would be politically expedient but doesn't necessarily require character or strength of conviction.
McCain did indeed support increased benefits, so the rest of your argument is without merit.
Having read your blog for some time, however, I was completely caught off guard by one aspect of your comment. I never would have guessed you had the capacity to feel offended.
as a former veteran I was/am offended that he didn't have the balls to sign it. He went and hid behind something that he knew wasn't going to get passed so he can say
"look, what I TRIED to do though"
pathetic.
Much like your GOP talking points. Seriously, just link to Drudge all day, it would save you time to go read up on the facts and stuff.
IMO, it takes far more courage to vote based on conviction. I may disagree with McCain on numerous issues, but I can't be offended by his backing a competing bill with the same goal of helping veterans but using differing methods. Unless someone offers evidence that he secretly wants GIs to have no benefits but voted for the failed bill for PR purposes, I see no reason to assume that's his motive.
Just my opinion, and I'm a current veteran with no plans to abdicate the title.
BTW, haven't been to drudge in a long time - has he posted anything interesting lately?
"as a former veteran I was/am offended that he didn't have the balls to sign it."
Ahhh.....why don't you want to be a veteran anymore?
As for hiding.....isn't that what Obama is doing?
Ooops.....excuse me! Obama isn't hiding....he is too much of a coward to go to Iraq and visit the troops.
